Gas line installation and gas leak repair in NYC
Gas work in New York City must be done by a licensed master plumber and filed with the Department of Buildings. GW Mechanical Corp does it that way in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and Manhattan: leak repair, new lines for appliances and heating equipment, pressure tests, and getting service restored after a shutoff.
Gas work we do
Every job is leak-tested with an electronic detector and, where required, pressure-tested and inspected.
Gas leak repair
After the utility shuts off a leaking line, we find and repair the leak, pressure test the system and get it ready for restoration.
Gas lines for appliances
New lines and shutoffs for stoves, ranges, dryers, outdoor grills and generators.
Gas lines for boilers and water heaters
Sized to the load, with sediment traps and shutoffs, as part of a boiler or water heater installation.
Gas pressure tests
Required after a shutoff, a leak, or any new piping. We perform and document the test for DOB and Con Edison.
Oil-to-gas conversions
New gas service piping from the meter to a new boiler, coordinated with the utility.
Gas service restoration
When Con Edison has locked the meter, we repair, test, file and coordinate the inspection so service is turned back on.
If you smell gas
Leave the building first. Do not switch lights on or off, do not use a phone inside, do not light anything. From outside, call 911 or Con Edison at 1-800-752-6633. The utility will shut the gas off and make the area safe. Then call us; the repair, test and restoration are our job.
Gas restoration in NYC is a process, and it goes faster with a plumber who does it regularly. The leak is repaired, the entire system is pressure tested, the work is filed with the Department of Buildings, an inspection is scheduled, and Con Edison restores service after the inspection passes. We handle each step and tell you where it stands.
For new gas lines, the same filing and inspection applies. Unfiled gas work is both dangerous and a problem at sale or refinance, when the building's DOB record is checked.

Questions
Who can work on gas lines in NYC?
Only a New York City licensed master plumber, or someone working under one, with the work filed with the Department of Buildings. GW Mechanical Corp is a licensed master plumber.
Con Edison shut off my gas. How do I get it back?
The leak or defect is repaired, the system is pressure tested, the work is filed with DOB, an inspection is passed, and Con Edison restores service. We handle the repair, test, filing and inspection coordination.
Can you run a gas line for a new stove or dryer?
Yes. We size the line, install a shutoff at the appliance, leak test and file as required.
How long does gas restoration take?
It depends on the extent of the repair and inspection scheduling. A simple leak repair with a quick inspection can be days; piping replacement in a larger building can be longer. We give you a realistic timeline after seeing the job.
Do you do gas pressure tests?
Yes, and we document them for DOB and the utility.
